Psychiatric Cases; Hospital trains Ikara LG health personnel

The Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital Kaduna has trained health personnel of Ikara Local Government area of Kaduna state on how to handle Neuro psychiatric cases at the grassroot.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr. Sheikh Lateef Taiwo said the training will benefit people in the villages who cannot afford to visit the hospital in Kaduna.
He charged Ikara Local Government to take the programme with all seriousness because they are the immediate beneficiary.
According to the CMD, with this development, it is not all cases of mental health that will be referred to Kaduna as it can be handled at the local level unless the case proves otherwise.
Dr. Taiwo challenged the participants to practice what they have learned from the training by alleviating the mental health cases in their community.
He noted that mental health is total health, so people should take health issues with all the seriousness, particularly the mental ones.
Speaking earlier, the Health Mobilization Officer in the Local Government, Auwalu Musa Auchan described the week long training as educative and enlightening on how to handle mental health cases at local level.
He assured the CMD of their total commitments towards educating, enlightening and assisting the community on issues relating to mental health.
According to him, the training has accorded them the opportunity to have knowledge about handling mental cases in their community.
In his remarks the Deputy Director Medical, Ikara Local Government, Malam Lawal Zubairu said the training has educated the participants on how to handle cases related to mental issues as against before where mental issues was not easy for them.
Zubairu assured the CMD of their readiness to partner with the hospital for more training programmes and promised to utilize what they learn from the training through service to humanity.
