The Delta State Chapter of the Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN) at the weekend stated that Delta State is  not a place to do business due to multiple taxation, oppression from touts, perpetual blackout by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), insecurity and others.
APBN Delta State Chairman, Mr. John Aikpokpo-Martins made this assertion during the Body’s Board of Directors Meeting which held in Effurun,Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
The APBN said,  “If you look at the issue of taxation,no development, no light.
“If you buy a piece of land, some people will tell you if you don’t pay some setting amount of money you won’t develop. All these things must stop.
“If you want to develop your land, if you don’t pay money, the local government boys will come to you, they will beat you up, throw you down, nobody will say anything.
“The hotel may make money pay it all for tax. Just like that. So, Delta State is not a place to do business.”
“Those of us who are here don’t have any place to go.Many people have migrated out of Delta State and we cannot remain like this.”
APBN disclosed that these are the reasons why it intends to hold a conference in May with a view to explain the difficulties of doing business in Delta stressing that this is also equal with the difficulty of living in Delta State.
“We want to look at the best way, and put it to government. So that is why we want to hold that conference and talk to ourselves.
“It’s not easy to make Government listen to you but we will do our best.
APBN also lamented over the death of two lawyers some years ago in Delta as a result of insecurity in the land.
APBN stressed,”Killings must stop. This was how two lawyers was killed in Delta state and nothing was done about it.”
