The Senate of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has hinted that the process of selecting a new Vice Chancelor, VC for the institution  has started “in accordance with the law”.
This was contained in a release issued and made available to journalists in Ibadan by the FUNAAB Senate after an emergency meeting where it reviewed the development in the school.
The Senate in the release signed by the FUNNAB Registrar, Mathew Ayoola expressed satisfaction at the way the council and management has ensured peace, security and unfettered academic activities.
FUNAAB Senate also promised to ensure good governance at the University as well as expressed concern over the trend in Nigerian universities where persons or groups in the guise of unionism acting alone or in concert with external influences seek to control the levers of administration and undermine the peace and harmony of varsities.
It however passed a vote of confidence on the Vice Chancellor, Professor Olusola Oyewole who was last week arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before an Ogun State High Court, Abeokuta, on an 18-count charge bordering on conspiracy
Others arraigned with the are Senator Adesewe Ogunlewe, former Works Minister and Pro Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta;  and Mr. Moses Olusola Ilesanmi, Bursar
The FUNNAB Senate added that the Vice Chancellor and the two others “are presumed innocent until proven otherwise by the court”.
“The Senate reaffirmed its confidence in the ability of the Vice Chancellor to provide academic and administrative leadership for the remaining part of his tenure at the helm of office. The process of selecting a new VC has begun in accordance with the law”.
It will be recalled that the FUNAAB VC is currently being investigated for alleged abuse of office, stealing and obtaining money by false pretense.
