Primary School Teachers in Taraba Protest Non Payment of Salaries

Primary school Teachers in their hundred took to streets in Jalingo the Taraba state capital in protest over nonpayment of their salaries for several Months.
At the state branch of Nigeria Union of Teachers along Donga Road in Jalingo (NUT) where they converged  the Teachers demanded the leadership of the union to mount pressure on the state government to pay their salaries.
Spoke person of the Teachers, Mr.  Jonathan James said Teachers were disappointed over the refusal of government to pay them their salaries despite that all of them were verified some teachers were still owned salaries of between five to six Months.
“It is surprising that despite the verification exercise conducted by the state Universal Basic Education Board on all Teachers but Teachers are yet to be paid.” Mr Jonathan said.
Addressing the Teachers, the state chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers, Alhaji Aliyu Mafindi urged the Teachers to  be calm  pointing out that the union and the state branch of Nigeria Labour congress was making efforts to ensure payment of their salaries.
“The Nigeria union of Teachers and Nigeria Labour congress is not relenting in pushing for the right of Teachers in the state” the NUT chairman said.
Meanwhile the chairman of the state Universal Basic Education Board, Mr. Yakubu Agbaizo has expressed disappointment  over the protest but however admitted that the verification exercise was marred by some challenges.
   
He assured the Teachers that   challenges that marred the exercise would be addressed in order to pay them their salaries
