Power Failure: NASS Will Hold Public Hearing – Reps Member

Plans have reached an advanced stage by the National Assembly (NASS)  towards holding a public hearing on crucial matters relating to the country’s power grid failure coming up on the 22nd of this month, as part of its efforts in addressing the lingering power failure bedeviling the nation.

The House Committee Chairman on Power, in the  House of Representatives, Engineer Da’u Aliyu dropped the  hint,  while addressing a press conference in Dutse.

 Honorable Engineer Da’u Aliyu said that  the idea is to hear from members of the public on burning issues affecting the general operation of  Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on remote causes of power grid failure in the country, power distribution, the billing system, operational success and failure of TCN, issues of privitization of power in the country, among others and propose solutions for a way forward.

” I don’t  hold brief for TCN, but then reports have indicated that the corporation has inherited very poor operational infrastructural facilities as such, this among others could be least amongst its predicament in running skeletal services.

*Answers to this exalted question could be traced through the discussions and deliberations of our proposed public hearing on power,”   Engineer Da’u said.

Honorable Da’u Aliyu who is representing Buji/ Birnin Kudu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives from Jigawa State, further said,  “I am totally against power privitization of  the country, as tried with less impact,  instead, let the government identify all the impending predicament surrounding the power sector with a view to resuscitating them for improved service delivery.

On his third term candidature, Engineer Da’u said, “I am not scared   of my victory  in the forthcoming 2023 general elections based on my performance.

“We feel we have done our best, both our party the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), through the execution of its viable developmental strides and ourselves in different formats be it on empowerment.

“The award of scholarship to.numerpus numbers of our students, provision of social infrastructure such as access roads, schools renovation and construction of new ones, among other numerous commitment,” he pointed out.

According to him, politics doesn’t really rely on empowering the people alone, “but how much you integrate with your people, give them sense of belonging and reasoning, assist them where necessary, socialize, and give them sense of reasoning and belonging to feel honoured and recognition in society as well as  cater for the less privileged in the society adequately.

“For example, in the last eight years of our stewardship, I am pleased to inform you that we have empowered over 7,000 women and youth of our constituency with job creation, training them on various skills acquisition of their choice  and provision of working capital running into several millions of Naira. After the training,  the award of scholarship to our dedicated students schooling in different tertiary institutions in the country and abroad, numbering over 3,000, in addition to the provision of other incentives just to motivate our community were undertaken.

“We have renovated and reconstructed and furnished quite  a number of schools across my two constituencies of Birnin-Kudu and Buji councils, in addition to the purchase and donation of two brand new hospital ambulances to the general hospitals of Birnin-Kudu and Buji Federal Constituency, in addition to rendering other humanitarian gestures in different pursuits.”
