Potable water; BASG to the rescue

The Bauchi State Sovernment has embarked on creating necessary institutional, regulatory and legislative framework in the water sector in order to make clean water available and beneficial for domestic and other purposes to the teeming people of the state as its top priority, also in line with the targets of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Governor Mohammed Abubakar while commissioning the Wikki Spring Water Company at Mainama’aji in Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state said the move is also geared to eradicate water-borne diseases.
Abubakar restated the determination of his administration to create job opportunities and commercial activities by supporting “small, medium and large scale industries through the creation of an enabling environment for them to operate”.
The Governor revealed that government has engaged the services of experts to carry out a study and advise it on the state of idle industries in the state with a view to resuscitating the viable ones and the appropriate decision to be taken on the non-viable ones.
He commended the proprietors of the company for establishing it in the state, saying the commissioning marks the return of activities at the famous Wikki Warm Spring as floating of the company is a testimony of the patriotism of the chairman and board of directors in ensuring that the company is fully indigenous.
The Governor applauded the zeal and foresight of the company especially for “keying into the State government’s programme of encouraging private participation in boosting the economy of Bauchi and called on other local entrepreneurs to emulate it by establishing other similar companies that will help in the growth and economic development of the state.
While thanking the Governor for creating the enabling environment for commercial businesses to thrive especially by ensuring adequate security of life and property, the representative of the company said it came about as a result of the conviction that some like-minded people had to come together to contribute towards actualizing the restoration agenda of the Bauchi state government and harnessing some of the abundant natural resources in the state.
The spokesman explained that the company which seeks to create employment opportunities for the teeming unemployed youth of the state, eradicate youth banditry and reduce the burden on the state, has already created 50 direct employment, with the expectation of generating over 2, 000 indirect in the short run.
Wikki Spring water company currently has the capacity to produce 5, 000 bottles of water per hour, which translates to forty thousand bottles per 8 working hours per day, 80, 000 sachets water same per production hours.
