*Security operatives gun down popular thug

By Adama John, Lokoja

Three local government areas of Kogi State were attacked by thugs leading to death of some especially in the eastern flank of the state on Saturday.

This include Abocho and Anyigba where voting materials were attempted to be snatched and had the thug in Anyigba, Aka Ihiaba, gunned down by the security operatives.

While it was reported that about six thugs were gunned down by security agents in Kogi east particularly Anyigba in Dekina local government area, others were scattered within Omala local government.

The only local government area across the River Niger that recorded thuggery is Mopa Muro where thugs in their numbers, disrupted and wounded some voters even during the counting of votes.

In all, seven polling units in the eastern flank of the state between Dekina and Omala local government areas were cancelled by the electoral umpire due to the activities of the thugs that invaded the polling units.

Generally, the turn out of the electorate was impressive as compared to the past governorship election that witnessed voting apathy.

Governor Yahaya Bello of the state, after casting his vote at his polling Unit 001 at Okene Eba in Ahachi Ward, commended the security operatives, INEC officials and the entire electorate for the conduct of the election.
