The Edo governorship running mate to Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon. John Yakubu has described politicians as liars, saying they deliberately make promises they fully know they cannot keep to the electorate during their electioneering campaigns.
Hon. Yakubu, former chairman of Esan North-East Local Government Area of the state, made the assertion on Friday while chatting with newsmen at the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Press Centre, Benin City.
The Deputy Governorship candidate said if the politicians are not liars, the All Progressives Congress(APC) which promised the feeding of school children during their electioneering campaign should have kept to their promise having won the presidential election.
He said most campaign promises are made by politicians to woo electorate to themselves and at the end, those promises are not kept.
He said, as a deviation from the old practice, the Edo PDP with its “SIMPLE Agenda” campaign promises, the party will rewrite the wrongs in the state.
He said it has taken the APC in the state eight years to build the so-called five-star-hospital in Benin City, stressing that, PDP would build more functional hospitals and ensure that each hospital wards would be having a medical doctor to take care of the health needs of the people in the state.
He promised that the PDP, if voted into power would be prudent with the state’s finances and to render account to the people of the state on a regular basis.
He however expressed displeasure that the Esan people which made up the Edo Central Senatorial District, under the present APC administration were politically marginalized as vital offices were ceded to the North and South leaving them with nothing.
He said the PDP government will make life meaningful for all the citizens of the state, if voted into office come September 10.
