Police Zone 12 unveils strategic crime response plans for North East

The Zone 12 Police Headquarters in Bauchi has unveiled its strategic plan on combating crimes, as it reaffirmed commitment for the resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the Northeast sub-region.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone 12, AIG Tunde ‎Ogunsakin said the command is set to implement strategic crime response plan after a discreet evaluation of security situation and needs of the three states of Bauchi, Yobe and Borno that make up the zone
“It has been challenging because occasionally I have to relocate to Yobe and Borno states so as to ensure‎ that our supportive role to the military in the battle against insurgency is effectively and efficiently carried out”, Ogunsakin said.
AIG Ogunsakin, who was addressing the press in his office in Bauchi, said that his constant relocation to the two states is also to give strategic and administrative directions to his commissioners of police whom, he noted, are equally doing excellently well.
He explained that the strategic crime response plan integrates intelligence -led policing and community partnership in policing that continued response sufficiently to cattle rustling, armed robbery, kidnapping and other crimes in the zone resulting in drastic reduction in crimes rate.
Mr. Tunde Ogunsakin positioned that Zone 12 has adopted a holistic policing method that is packed with various activities that are centred on citizens’ involvements in policing which turned out to be result-oriented.
He outlined the activities to include‎ regular meetings with stakeholders, traditional and religious leaders, youth and other unions in the states, and strengthening inter-agency cooperation with security agencies.
Others, he said, are the establishment and creation of police ward head committees with view to identifying every stranger in the communities, as well as the pursuit of capacity building programmes by zone 12 Headquarters.
Ogunsakin expressed the command’s commitment on plans to resettle internally displaced persons in the zone, saying “I have visited IDPs camps and bases in my strategic appraisal and assessment of the security situation in the Northeast, I have drawn a time table which contains the role of the zone in the resettlement of the IDPs”.
“That is why specifically we are planning a two-day workshop titled Police Strategy and Plans for Re-settlement‎ of IDPs in the Northeast, it’s going to hold at Yankari Games Reserve in Bauchi state and selected police officers from the three states that make up Zone 12 police Command will be participants, resource Persons are being drawn from UNODC, EU, American Embassy, Human Right Group and Senior Police Officers who have been part of peace keeping abroad”.
