Police parade 71 bandits, armed robbers, rapists, cultists in Lagos

No fewer than 71 suspected bandits have been paraded by the Commissioner of Police, Lagos Command, Fatai Owoseni for alleged involvement in different criminal activities ranging from armed robbery, abduction, defilement and cultism.
The suspects, which included a 7-man gang of armed robbers and a 24 man gang of cultist, the Police boss said were arrested at different locations in the state within one week.
Owoseni, who briefed the media on the successes recorded by the command in the efforts of reducing crime to barest minimum in the state, also disclosed that six of the suspects were arrested for raping a woman in Agege area of the state.
The Police Commissioner also accused the six suspects of armed robbery and one of them identified simply as Godwin of impersonating a policeman.
Members of the 7-man armed robbery gang, were alleged by the Police Commissioner to have robbed residents of Wema Board Estate, Ikoyi, where valuables such as gold and silver jeweleries, expensive wrist watches, four I-pad and 11 assorted mobile phones were carted away.
 
He identified the suspects to include Daniel Thomas, 29, Emmanuel Omojuwa, 30, Raphael Ijuwa, 32, Stanley Ichofu, 31, Femi Michael, 28, Ameh John, 22, the gate man to the Estate and Friday Eze, 30, said to be the gang leader.
 
It was gathered that the suspects were arrested with their loot at about 3.00am, shortly after the robbery operation on Lord Lugard road by eagled-eye anti robbery policemen attached to Ikoyi division, who were on routine patrol.
 
Eze, the gang leader, in a chat with our correspondent confessed to the crime, adding that he engaged in the crime with a view to raise money to fend for the children of his late sister.
 
He disclosed that he had participated in six different robbery operations with different members.
 
Eze disclosed that he was invited by Ameh John, an employee of Sheriff Deputy, a private security company, manning the estate gate to come and rob the residents, with the agreement to share the proceed.
 
He added that he only invited Emmanuel Omojuwa who recruited other members of the gang for the operation.
 
“I have robbed for only six times and i do it because of my late sister’s children, they were thrown out of school and i want to raise money to take care of them.
“On this operation, I was invited by the gate man of the estate; John to come and rob the residents so that we can share what come out of it. I met  him at Falomo where I went to buy sweet from malam and after we began to discuss about our lives, he then told me to organise boys to come an rob the residents”, Eze said.
On the cultists, he identified some of them to include Ugochukwu Obiora, Moses Inefeke, Udeme Samuel and Umo Omofie. The Police boss disclosed that they were arrested in Ajah area of the state, adding that they are members of a notorious Eiye Confraternity.
He said they were involved in the bloody clash that occurred sometimes ago in the area, where two persons were killed.
