Police Parade 12 Suspects, Rescue kidnapped Catholic Priest in A’Ibom

Renewed effort by Akwa Ibom State Police Command to raise the bar in crime prevention and reduction is yielding fruits with the arrest of twelve (12) notorious criminal suspects within the last two weeks.
Parading the suspects on Wednesday at the command’s headquarters in Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo, commissioner of police, Mr. Don Awunah said they were arrested at various locations in the state by operatives through robust and intelligence strategies.
CP Awunah said the suspects were involved in armed robbery, kidnapping, car snatching and street lights vandalization as well as cultism/murder.
Exhibits recovered from the suspects include Ak-47 riffle, locally made pistols, live cartridges, rounds of 9mm ammunitions face mask, torchlight, four shoto GFMS-1000 sealed battery marked with the sign of MTN, two big bags containing cable wires, Ten Abisson ESU-G200 WH/A energy storage units, cash of N180,000.
Also recovered were a Nissan Primera with registration No. GG 861 DO and Kia Soul care with registration No. UW 677 KJA among other items.
The operation according to CP Awunah, has also led to the rescue of a Catholic Priest, Rev. Father Francis Akpan of St. Michael Parish, Ilot Etim Village in Ukanafun local government area of the state. He was kidnapped last week while returning to the Parish from Topfaith International School, Mkpantak in Etim Ekpo where he is a teacher also.
Father Akpan’s abductors CP Awunah added, have upon interrogation confessed to have been behind many high profile kidnap cases in the state including the kidnap of a lecturer in the Akwa Ibom State University, Ikot Akpaden.
Awunah who however advised the criminal minded persons in the state to turn a new leaf before being caught by the police searchlights, promised that anyone caught committing crime would be dealt with according to the law.
CP Awunah who assumed duty in Akwa Ibom as the new Commissioner of Police few weeks ago, said he has mapped and sectorized the state for optimal service delivery, and sued for cooperation from all.
He commended his predecessor CP Murtala Mani for the excellent security architecture he met on ground and thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel for his support to the command in the state.
