Ranks of suspected terrorists in Katsina have suffered depletion following the killing of one of them by police detectives in a gun duel.
Five women earlier kidnapped by the suspected bandits were said to have been rescued by the gallant police operatives.parties.
Our correspondent gathered that one AK 47 rifle was also recovered during the exchange of gunshots, with some of the terrorists believed to have escaped the scene with gunshots wounds.
The Katsina State Police Command spokesperson, CSP Gambo Isah who made the disclosure in a statement on Monday, said the attack occurred at Bajinawa village, Dutsinma LGA.
” On 14/05/2023 at about 2200hrs, a distress call was received that terrorists-bandits, on motorcycles, shooting sporadically with AK 47 rifles, attacked Bajinawa village, Dutsinma LGA and kidnapped five (5) women. Area commander, Dutsinma, led a team of Policemen to Tashar Icce, a suspected route/black spot, engaged the hoodlums into a fierce gunduel and successfully repelled them.
” In the course of scanning the scene, one member of the terrorists gang was neutralized. The team also recovered one AK 47 rifle and rescued all the kidnap victims.
” Many terrorists are reasonably believed to have escaped the scene with gunshots wounds. Search parties are still combing the area with a view of arresting the injured and/or neutralized bandits.
” The Command enjoins members of the affected communities to report any suspected person found with gunshots wounds to the nearest police station. Investigation is ongoing, please”, CSP Isah stated.
