Katsina State Police Command has announced the neutralisation of a 22-year old suspected notorious kidnapper and gunrunner, Nazifi Ibrahim of Unguwar Tsamiya Village in Faskari Local Government Area of the state and recovery of a large cache of ammunition.
Spokesman of the state Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu in a statement, attributed the success to the able leadership of CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa based on the command’s determination in the ongoing fight against banditry in the state.
“On November 11th, 2023, at about 03:30hrs, based on a tip-off on the activities of some suspected kidnappers wielding dangerous weapons such as AK 47 rifles, in a farm situated at the outskirt of Yankara Village, Faskari LGA, Katsina State, upon receipt of the report, the DPO Faskari promptly mobilised a joint team of police operatives, members of the vigilante, and officers of the Katsina State Neighbourhood Security Watch Corps and responded to the scene,” the statement said.
However, it explained that, “upon noticing the presence of the operatives, the suspected kidnappers opened fire on them, which the officers valiantly returned fire, forcing the terrorists to abandon their evil plan and flee into the nearby bush.”
Accordingly, while combing the scene, the PPRO said the body of the neutralised suspected kidnapper and one hundred and eighty-five (185) live rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, ninety (90) live rounds of 5.56mm M193 type 06 ammunition as well as thirteen (13) Ak-47 magazines neatly concealed in a sack were recovered.
“The body of the neutralised suspected kidnapper and gunrunner was later identified as one Nazifi Ibrahim, ‘m’, 22 years old, of Unguwar Tsamiya village, Faskari LGA. Efforts are on with a view to arresting the fleeing suspects as the investigation proceeds,” ASP Sadiq Aliyu said.
Consequently, while praising the operatives’ professionalism, synergy, and bravery, the CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, urged officers and DPOs to cultivate a high level of synergy with all relevant security agencies in their respective local government areas and also to work hand in hand with the State Neighbourhood Security Watch Corps for improved security of the lives and property of the citizens of the state.
Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Musa called on citizens of the state to keep providing the command and other security agencies with crucial and timely information on criminal activities so that swift and decisive action could be taken to stop any criminal activity and to report to the nearest police station any person seen with suspicious injuries, as some of the bandits have escaped the scene with gunshot wounds.
