Ilaro the headquarters of Yewa South Local Government area of Ogun State Thursday was thrown into confusion by youths of the town who staged  wild protest against the killing of two commercial motorcyclists allegedly shot by a Police officer.
The two victims were allegedly killed for violating the restriction order earlier placed on all commercial motorcyclists in the state by the state Commissioner of Police, Abdul-Majid Ali.
The protesters, comprising commercial motorcyclists and members of the Butcher Association in Ilaro town, barricaded all roads in and around the town.
According to a reliable source, they also burnt disused tyres and threatened to “deal” with the Police for deliberately gunning down one of their colleagues.
As a result New Nigerian gathered that  protest paralysed all commercial activities in the town as shops, markets, stalls, banks as well as the local government secretariat were hurriedly shot.
Our Correspondent also gathered that three Police officers had shot a commercial motorcyclist identified as Akanji Ahmed a.k.a Posi around 9pm Wednesday at Igbo – Aje motor park, which is the main heart of Ilaro town, in Yewa South local government.
Our correspondent further gathered that the 32 year old Akanji, after closing for work, had gone to buy food on a friend’s motorcycle but was intercepted by the three Police men who themselves were on another motorbike, accusing him of contravening the CP’s order, which had restricted okada movement to 9p.m.
Source who witnessed the scenario further told our correspondent that Akanji’s refusal to part with N100 demanded by the Police officers after taking possession of his motorcycle, forced the officers to descend on him, beating him to stupor.
While still struggling to leave the scene, one of the Police officers who accused Akanji of abusing them allegedly pulled the trigger and shot Akanji from the rear (back) which killed him instantly.
His corpse had however, been deposited at the morgue of the State Hospital in Ilaro since Wednesday night.
New Nigerian further gathered that the traditional ruler of the town, the Olu of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle who visited the scene around 10pm after the incident, passionately appealed to the people of the town, particularly the youths not to take the laws into their hands by revenging, but allow the full course of the law to take its course.
The angry youths also allegedly staged a protest to the Ilaro Police Divisional office that night, but were chased away by the officers who fired several shot sporadically into the air to scare them.
The development however, infuriated the youths of the town, who re-grouped at the early hours of Thursday to stage a protest by burning disused tyres and barricaded roads to prevent vehicular and human movement.
Reacting to the incident, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Muyiwa Adejobi who confirmed the Ilaro’s cop killing, stressed that the Command had arrested and commenced the trial of the erring Police officer.
“The misdeed of this erring Policeman had triggered the anger of some members of the public, especially, commercial motorcyclists, who took over the streets and started attacking  Police personnel, facilities and vehicles before they were pacified by very senior Police officers and His Royal Majesty, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, Olu of Ilaro” he stressed.
