Police Inspector Injured As Angry Youth Protest Scarcity Of Naira Notes, Fuel In Ibadan

Hundreds of angry youth on Friday, protested around major  roads in Ibadan and the Oyo State Government Secretariat, over the ongoing fuel and Naira notes scarcity in the country.

The protesters while attempting to protest into the government secretariat, attacked the security personnel attached to the secretariat during which a Police Inspector was injured.

It was learnt that the protest started at Iwo Road area of Ibadan, with some youth gathering at the Iwo Road interchange, protesting the scarcity of Naira notes and fuel, chanting anti government songs.

The angry youth barricaded roads as the protest spread from Montana to Iwo Road interchange axis and later Agodi Gate and then to the Oyo State Government Secretariat, Agodi with the protesters making bonfires with some of them attempting to force their way into the secretariat.

While at the secretariat, the protesters blocked one side of the Bodija Axis Road leading into the secretariat, amidst bonfire as well as engaging the security personnel at the entrance in a free for all.

The protesting youth with iron rods, stones, plastic chairs, broken bottles, among others during the fracas, injured a Police Inspector attached to the secretariat .

From Agodi Government Secretariat, the protest spread to Mokola and Dugbe with the protesters blocking the roads with  bonfires, forcing traders and passers by in the areas to scamper for safety.

Amidst the protest,  commercial banks in Iwo Road, Agodi Gate,  Mokola and Dugbe areas, hurriedly shut down activities with other shops in markets across Ibadan,   to prevent looting by the protesters 

The angry youth during the protest were complaining about the hardship the scarcity of fuel and Naira scarcity on them, tasking the authorities to find a lasting solution to the problem as soon as possible.

As at the time of sending this report, fears gripped residents in parts of Ibadan over the protest which has completely paralysed economic activities in and across the town.
