Police in Ogun parade kidnappers of 4-year old boy
By; Niyi Ogungbola, Abeokuta.
The Police in Ogun State today paraded four suspected kidnappers who allegedly abducted a four year old boy, Steve Kanu from his parents’ home at Laderin Housing Estate in Abeokuta, the state capital and whisked away in a taxi-coloured cab to an unknown destination.
The state Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali, who paraded the suspect yesterday at the command’s headquarters in Eleweeran, Abeokuta, gave the names of the four including 21 years old Kenechukwu Amoke, Anayo Amoke (35), Oluchi Asadu‎ (20), and Maureen Uchenna, who worked as a Nurse in the hospital of the victim’s father.
Ali stated that the actual kingpin, identified as Obinna Amoke, who is a lover of Maureen, the Nurse was on the run.
Addressing reporters, CP Ali explained that the four suspects were arrested at a village in Nnsukka in Enugu State at the weekend.
Ali also stated that the abduction of Steve was allegedly hatched by the 25-year-old Nurse, ‎Maureen, who confessed after the suspects had collected N1million as ransom from the parents of the victim, Dr and Mrs Mucipay Kanu‎.
After the parents of the boy had parted with the ransom, the suspects also demanded for additional N11 million ransom and threatened to kill the boy should the parent of the 4-year old boy fail to pay the money.
The CP however stated that nemesis caught up with the suspects last Friday 20th November when the anti-kidnapping unit of the Ogun State Police Command swooped on their hideout at Nsukka in Enugu state with the assistance of the Enugu Command.
The police commissioner declared that his command would liaise with the Enugu State government to demolish the building where the kidnapped boy was rescued in Nsukka in accordance with the laws.
“Maureen was a Nurse with the father of the victim. She planned with one Obinna Amoke, who is a lover to Maureen to carry out the crime.
“The victim was kept in Anayo’s house in Abeokuta for eight days before they moved him to Enugu. Oluchi Asadu’s house in Nsukka was used as their hideout.”
