Police dismiss officers for extortion in Lagos, parades 71 suspected bandits

As part of efforts to sanitise the Nigeria Police Force of bad eggs and restore its good image, no fewer than 35 policemen have been arrested in Lagos for misconduct, with some of them already dismissed.
 
The arrant cops, who were serving in the Lagos Command until their arrest, were said to have been apprehended by the command’s reinvigorated X-Squad team for misconduct, which bothers majorly on extortion.
 
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, who confirmed the arrest, disclosed that the action was in compliance with the directive of the Acting Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris on the need to sanitise the Force of bad elements.
 
Owoseni, who did not give the exact figure of those dismissed or  de-ranked, informed that they have gone through orderly room trial, adding that appropriate punishment have been meted on them base on the dept of their involvement.
He warned that the command will not rest on its oars to deal decisively with those who engage in misconduct to tarnish the image of the Police Force.
 
The Police Commissioner, who spoke at a press conference at the command’s headquarter, Ikeja, also paraded  no fewer than 71 suspected bandits nabbed for  their  alleged involvement in different criminal activities ranging from armed robbery, abduction, defilement and cultism.
 
The suspects, which included a 7-man gang of armed robbers and a 24 man gang of cultist, the Police boss said were arrested at different locations in the state within one week.
