Police Confirms Killing Of 41 By Terrorists On Katsina

Clashes  between terrorists and a vigilante group, Yansakai at Yargoje forest in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State has led to the death of  forty-one persons. 

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Katsina State Police Command,  Superintendent of Police (SP) Gambo Isah said that on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at about 2200hrs, terrorists in their numbers, shooting sporadically with AK 47 rifles, attacked the house of one Alhaji Muntari, at Unguwar Audu Gare, Kandarawa, Bakori Local Government Area, and rustled fifty cattle and 30 sheep. 

Subsequently, he said on Thursday,  February 2, 2023, at  about 10:00hrs, Yansakai an outlawed group, from eleven villages of Bakori Local Government Area,  regrouped and went after the terrorists with a view to recovering the rustled domestic animals. 

SP Gambo Isah explained that, ” the Yansakai traced the footpath of the hoodlums to a location at Yargoje Forest. Unfortunately, the terrorists planned and launched a coordinated ambush on the Yansakai.”

Superintendent of Police Gambo Isah  disclosed that, the hoodlums shot and killed forty-one Yansakai and wounded two.  

He said the Police Area Commander of Malumfashi, led a team of Policemen to the scene and recovered  the corpses and those injured to Kankara General, Hospital.

 A joint security operations is currently ongoing with a view to bringing the perpetrators to book, SP Gambo Isah said.
