Police Boss rates Akwa Ibom low in crime

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 6 Calabar, AIG Abubakar Marafa has adjudged the crime rates in Akwa Ibom state as the least in the zone, saying the state is safer for investors.
AIG Marafa who made the remarks in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital during his familiarization tour of the police formations in the state said, “I am pleased to say here that the rates of crime in Akwa Ibom State is very very low compared to the rates in Cross River and Rivers states.”
He called on men and officers of the state’s command to continue to accord maximum support to the commissioner so as to maintain the status quo of crime control.
The AIG said his visit to Akwa Ibom was to remind officers and men in the state’s command of the IGP agenda for high visibility, people oriented and intelligence led-policing in the country.
According to him, IGP agenda’s urge the men and officers of the police force to keep to the grounds order meant to redefine the strategies of policing for optimum results.
He reminded them that the order banning road block nationwide remained total in line with the reform.
On dressing code, AIG Marafa said that the command would frown at any officer and men found wearing torn or unkempt uniform while on duty.
Their dressing always must be such that earn them respect from members of the public even as “Police is your friend” campaign should be seen as practicable a better community policing.
Also they must thrive to respect the fundamental human rights of citizens and avoid unauthorized use of firearms in the public.
According to AIG Marafa, the police command remain committed to the fight against any act of insurgency and other vices that are anti developmental in any part of the country.
Earlier, the Akwa Ibom state commissioner of police, CP Murtala Mani in his welcome address said that the command in the state has despite challenges, smashed many criminal syndicates in the state through its aggressive operational techniques supported by other sister security agencies.
Through intelligent gathering and sustained surveillance, comfort zones of other social misfits in the state have been raided and decimated.
He said the command has also enjoyed a robust support from the state government in its efforts to fight crime and criminality in the state.
