Police Arrests Armed Robbery Suspect, Rescues  Kidnapped Victim, Recover Guns In Delta

The Police in Delta State has confirmed the arrest of an armed robbery suspect, also rescued a kidnapped victim and recovered guns at Ugolo Community in Okpe Local Government Area of the state.

This was confirmed In a  statement made available to New Nigerian Newspapers Correspondent in Asaba,  the Delta State capital by the State Police  Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, who stated that, following a distress call informing of the kidnap of one man (name withheld) from Ugolo community in Okpe LGA. 

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Wale Abass immediately gave a marching order to the DPO Orerokpe, CSP Paul Oboware to activate all mechanism and ensure that the rescue of the kidnapped victim unhurt.

“According to the CP’s directive, on Thursday, November 10, 2023 at about 1900 hours, the DPO embarked on a technically intelligence-led investigation, mobilized men, and stormed their hideout at Ugolo Community. 

“The kidnappers on noticing that the police were closing in on them, relocated the victim to Erueni Community while negotiating for ransom.

“The police team relentlessly trailed the kidnappers to their new hideout, where they were eventually forced to abandon the kidnapped victim in an uncompleted building and escaped. 

“The victim was rescued unhurt and has since been reunited with his family while efforts to arrest the fleeing suspects is ongoing.

“In a similar development, on November 8, at about 1645hrs, operatives of the Eagle-Net Special Squad acting on credible information also stormed Ugolo Community in Okpe LGA where one Israel Akitia ‘m’ (34) was arrested during a search of his residence and one locally fabricated cut-to-size gun with three (03) live cartridges were recovered.

“Meanwhile, on 09/11/2023  at about 1405hrs, while the Police visibility patrol team from Agbarho Division were on stop and search duty alongside local vigilantes along the Five Junction axis in Agbarho, sighted two (02) adult male suspects who on sighting the patrol team, threw their bags away, and took to their heels into a nearby bush.

“Suspecting their intents, a  search was done on the bag, and one {01} locally fabricated pistol was recovered.

“The Exhibit is  now in custody, and effort is on to arrest the fleeing suspects.

“The Commissioner of Police CP. Wale Abass has congratulated Deltans for the relatively peaceful ember months so far.

“This is not only due to the resolute of the command, but also due to the cooperation the command is getting from members of the public”.
