The long arm of the law has caught up with no fewer than 754 suspected criminals in Lagos, as they were apprehended by Police detectives at different locations in the state.
The Commissioner of Police Lagos State Command, Fatai Owoseni, who made the disclosure, added that 23 robbery suspects were also arrested between March 18 and April 12, 2016.
Speaking, while giving account of the Command’s breakthrough in the last one month, during a press briefing, Owoseni hinted that three robbery suspects died during exchange of gunfire with the Police.
He further added that 27 arms, 64 different rounds of ammunition and 33 different vehicles were recovered under the period.
On the robbery suspects, Owoseni disclosed that two of the bandits, Babatunde Bamidele and Idowu Balogun are members of a 5 man -robbery gang that usually disguise to be sick and in the process attack hospital patients.
Owoseni said they were arrested by Police operatives attached to Ajangbadi division after they robbed some patients at a hospital in Ajangbadi area of the state.
“The suspects have been going about robbing hospital patients under gun point. They will pretend to be sick, one of them even has plaster on his stomach and head. Once they enter the hospital, they will hold the patients under gun point and dispossess them of their valuable. Luck ran against them as they were arrested after dispossessing some patients at a hospital in Ajangbadi area of the state”.
According to the Police boss, the suspects were apprehended during raid of criminal hideouts across the state.
Of the 754 suspects, Owoseni said 260 were released unconditionally after screening, 494 suspects charged to court, 298 so far convicted, 159 discharged, while 141 were placed on awaiting trial.
The Commissioner added that 255 motorcycles were also impounded for plying prohibited roads.
Owoseni, who expressed worry over increase in cult activities and domestic workers crime rate, urged the public to be careful of whom they employed as house servant.
On cultism, he said Lagos Island, Ikorodu, Ijede, Egbin and Ajiran community in Ajah areas were notorious and sources of concern to the Command.
The Commissioner however commended the public for their partnership with security agents in Lagos to reduce crimes.
Also paraded was a man that allegely slept with his step sister for about 10 years.
Some of the suspects were later taken to Special Anti Robbery Squard (SARS) cell, while others to various Police divisions who would charge them to court.
