Ahead of the September 10 gubernatorial election in Edo State, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Owere Dickson Imasogie, has alleged discovery of plans by members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to arrest some notable leaders of the PDP few hours or days to the election.
He told New Nigerian in a chat in Benin City that due to the desperation to win at all cost, the APC leaders have perfected plans to use security agencies to demoralize and neutralize members of the PDP.
“I have always said that Edo is a PDP state and that is the truth. But I am sure that the APC leaders in the state have just realized that and this is why they are desperate to clinch to power by all means.
“In their desperation to win the governorship election on September 10, they have concluded arrangements to use the security agencies including the police, SSS, and army to apprehend some top leaders of the PDP to prevent them from participating in the election.
“It is very obvious that if the election is free and fair, APC will get less than 30 per cent of the total votes and that is why they are restless, running from pillar to post.
“Watch it and mark my word, the APC leaders will come up with fake and frivolous allegations against the PDP chieftains so as to give way for their arrest. What is happening to some PDP youths in Uhen in Ovia North East Local Government is just a prelude or test case to what they want to do later.
“But the good thing is that PDP will win the election because the people are with us and the people have rejected the Oshiomhole’s government and the APC. So, no matter what the APC do now or later, PDP will definitely win”, Owere Imasogie disclosed.
The PDP Chieftain therefore called on voters and party members to continue to support the PDP and to, on the day of election, protect their votes.
Owere Imasogie also enjoined INEC officials and members of the security agencies to remain neutral and create level playing field for all political parties participating in the governorship election.
