PLHA complex shutdown, Members boycott sitting as PASAN strike continue

The striking Parliamentary Staff Associationof Nigeria (PASAN) Plateau State chapter blocked all entrance to the Assembly complex disrupting the day sitting.
The staff who sacked the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Peter Azi with the 24 other Members who abandoned  their offices, as demonstrating staff embarked on sit-down-look protest.
However, effort to speak with the Speaker proved abortive as his phone could not be reached.
The Assembly Complex staff blocked the main gate of the State House of Assembly demanding the releas of their salary increase which was approved in the 2016 Budget.
The Chairman of PASAN, Comrade Vatis Hakuri said the striking staff have not been paid when the union solicited for the cooperation of the Head of Service and Accountant General of the state.
“The Accountant General utterances trigger the anger of the members to embark on indefinite strike to press for the demand of their payment”.
The statement according to chairman was, “even if your union cut off my neck I won’t implement that new policy” the AG was quoted to have said.
According to him, the joint union has been making frantic effort to see the Head of Service as all arranged meeting end in deadlock.
He presented the original document which was captured in 2015/2016 budget with its copies made available to journalists.
The union leaders vowed not to vacate the premises and the staff defied the heavy rain falls, sitting inside the complex, saying until their demand is met.
Our correspondent witnessed that the Members could not sit without the staffs who work in their offices which showed that basically the House has been brought to a stand still.
Hakuri disclosed that they embarked on peaceful demonstration not to engage in violence approach to resolving their problem.
Effort to get the state Accountant General, Cyril Timyel to speak proved abortive as he couldn’t speak to any Journalist saying that he was rushing to a meeting.
