Plateau Sets Up C’ttee On IDPs Resettlement

Plateau State Governor, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Simon Bako Lalong has charged the committee for the return of Internally Displaced persons (IDPs) to their places of original homes after being displaced by the crisis. .
He made this during the inauguration of a committee through the secretary to Government of the state,  Rufus Bature  who  inaugurated a committee of 9 people for the returns of Internally Displaced Persons.
The committee is under the chairmanship of a Retired Art Force Officer of and immediate past coordinator of the state security outfit operation  Rainbow Air Vice Marshal Bala G. Danbabba with the following as members. Commissioner of Police Patrick Garba (rtd), Alhaji Sale Bayari, Da Christopher Mancha, Gwom Rwei Zawan, Acting Executive Secretary SEMA, Rev. Yakubu Pam and Abus Ibrahim Izang, who is to serve as the secretary of the committee.
“It would be recalled that, in the wake of the recent attacks, killings and destruction of property that engulfed some parts of Plateau State, that made people flee from their places of original abode for fear of being attacked or chased out“.
 He noted that the state Government“ has observed with dismay the indiscriminate occupation of land as a result of the attacks in Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Mangu, Jos South, Jos North, Bokkos and Bassa Local Government Areas of the state“.
Reports reaching Government also indicates that farmlands were being destroyed and in some cases crops harvested
  He gave the terms of reference to the committee to includes :
Identify the areas affected; identify those displaced and areas they were displaced from ascertain the number of people affected and displaced to identify those who have annexed the destroyed villages; to work out modalities for the effective return of the affected persons to their original places of abode.
Any recommendation that will facilitate the return of the internally displaced persons back to their original places of abode was also stated.
The committee was given four weeks to complete its assignment.
In the chairman’s acceptance speech, AVM Danbaba assured the Governor and government of Plateau State of keeping to the 4 weeks time framem.
