The effort of the present Government in mobilizing youth towards rice production has been described as a “bench mark“ for the diversification of the nation’s economic growth .
Chairman of Plateau State Rice Farmers Association, Mr. Joshua Bitrus made this known at the 1st flag- off ceremony for the dry season rice farming, under the Central Bank { CBN} and AB P model held in Jos.
He said the move is the right step in the right direction that is capable of cushioning the effect of the dwindling economy in the country.
“Today, the long awaited first Borrowers Programmes is taking off in Plateau State with facilitation of distribution of modern farms inputs believed to be the Agricultural best practice in the global agro- economy as the standard towards greater rice production to the deserving farmers of Plateau State. “.
He said, the inputs available for distribution to the benefiting farmers in the state include three inches water pumps, knap sack sprayer, fertilizer , Urea and Organic Herbicides as well as improved rice seeds .
The chairman thanked the CBN for role played in the RIFA projects in the country and the state in particular for the approval given for the facility.
Plateau State Governor, represented by his deputy, Mr. Sunny Tyoden, said the state government was glad with the effort of the federal government aimed at providing job opportunity.
On his part, the National Auditor of rice farmers, Hosea Francis said the farmers rejoiced at this emerging era in the history of farming in the country.
