Plateau Assembly Member Empowers Over 4,000 Constituents With Skills

Member Representing Jos North-North  Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Baba-Hassan has empowered over four thousand women with skills to become independent and self-reliant. 

The gesture according to Baba Hassan, is aimed at providing financial freedom for women to lessen the burden on men for better standards of living for families, improved communities and giving them a sense of fulfillment, at the event, held at Islamiya Primary School Bauchi Road in Jos. 

The women were trained on how to make cream, perfume, cakes, tailoring, computers and pastries as well as cosmetics, among others. 

The member representing Jos North North in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Baba Hassan who is also the All Progressives Congress (APC)  flagbearer for Jos North/Bassa  House of Representatives, explained that women remain  indispensable tools for creating wealth, boosting the family economy, and building stable families, following their multiple roles as mothers, homemakers, farmers, traders and community leaders. 

Baba Hassan said within the last two months, he has so far empowered over 2,500 women with ten thousand Naira each as starter packs to commence small and medium scale business, reiterating that   his determination is to ensure  thousands of women  are empowered with ten thousand Naira before January 2023.

He said aside from giving the ten thousand Naira each,   he intends to empower about twenty thousand women and youth in different trades for efficiency and effective growth and development. 

According to the member, both experts and policy-makers agree that empowering women especially the poor rural women, is fundamental to economic development in Nigeria. 

In her explanation, the Director Millennium Bulldozer, Saudat Hussan Adam said the empowerment programme is going to be in five stages with no fewer than four thousand women  trained with skills and become better citizens. 

Beneficiaries of the skills acquisition programmes, Esther Dung, Emmanuel Nyam and Aishatu Abubakar expressed gratitude to the Reps Member  for touching the lives of women through skills, noting that the initiative will not only empower women, but also foster tolerance in their communities.
