PDP not dead, only democratic party in Nigeria – Chairman
By Jacob Onjewu Dickson
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not dead, and remains the only democratic party in the country that is truly committed to national interests, acting National Chairman of the party, Ubong David has said.
According to him, verbal attacks and uncomplimentary remarks by some shameless individuals that the PDP is dead and has since been buried in Nigeria’s political lexicon is unfortunate.
“We would have ignored these rabble rousers for what they are and their deficit of idea on what constitutes an opposition government, but we want to put the record straight that the Peoples Democratic Party is and remain the only political party in Nigeria with national interest as others are promoting ethnic agenda. The party in the last 16 years that it held sway to power at the center has embarked on laudable policies and programs that has direct effect on the lives of millions of Nigerians.
“It is therefore unfortunate that the highest beneficiaries of PDP administration are the same people who are running their mouth at every occasion to cast aspersion on the Peoples Democratic Party because of their political expediencies. We want to use this medium to tell Nigerians that the Peoples Democratic Party within its 17 years of existence has been able to groom finest politicians in the country who are saddle with highest political responsibilities in the country today,” he said.

He described as shameful, comments from people who have benefitted from PDP administration to shamelessly come out in public functions to pronounce the party as dead.
“How can a party with 125 members in the House of Representatives, 49 Senators and 13 Governors be pronounced dead? How can a party that has offices in all the over 9000 Wards in the country, 774 local government and 36 states and FCT be pronounced dead? It is either the proponents of this falsehood are suffering from dementia or lack ideas on what a typical opposition is. We challenge them to come up with records of their numerical strength when PDP was at the center of power.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the current Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki is a product of the PDP and has served Kwara State for good eight years as PDP governor and four years in the Senate as PDP member. The current Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara is a product of PDP. The Minister of Transport, Rotimi Ameachi is a product of PDP and so many others.
“We make bold to say that as at today, PDP remain the only party with national appeal and urge our members not to allow themselves to be cajoled by the antics of few selfish and ungrateful individuals. The Peoples Democratic Party is re-strategizing and waxing strong in line with the rebranding program of the Party and will come out strong in the next general election in 2019.
