*insist on North retaining presidency in 2023

The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), has called on the national chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Iyorchia Ayu, to give peace a chance by resigning his position to a Southerner for equity and fairness as well as progress of democracy in the country.
The group noted, since Atiku Abubakar, a Northerner became. the flag bearer of the party to the 2023 general elections, Dr Ayu who is also from the North, should see resigning the position of the national chairman of the party to a Southerner as a necessity for balancing in the party hierarchy.
The National President of NYCN, Isa Abubakar, in a statement issued on Saturday, said, “In the face of injustices silence is a crime, to this end, the leadership of Northern Youth Council of Nigeria, cannot remain neutral on issues that affect the future of his people, because anything less than Nigeria’s Presidency in 2023 is unacceptable by the North and will be resisted, as such we can not trade a party Chairman to a Presidential seat, Ayu should consider the call for his resignation as a call to service and a call to give Nigeria a better future and should consider this as saving the party than his Chairmanship seat.”
The youths added, “We plead with Dr Iyorchia Ayu to understand the concept of justice and equity, as well; the spirit of oneness, to be patriotic enough to safe the party from loosing the 2023 general elections and resign, Nigerian and the entire country will be grateful if Ayu consider resignation, the PDP is know as a National party but with the emergency of Atiku Abubakar and Continuity of Ayu Chairmanship, alot of people see the Party as a regional political party, this is a bad reputation for the party and it is unacceptable to all party faithful.”
The group noted that it is worthy and important for any individual to play a role to seeing to the end of mis-governance brought upon the country by the APC-led administration and do everything humanly possible to resist their coming back to power in 2023.
“Dr Iyorchia Ayu should please be considerate of the happening in the country and give a southerner a chance to help lead the party to victory, if this is the only thing that will maintain peace and grant the party victory in the elections,” the youths pleaded.
