The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has described the recent deployment of more troops to Zamfara State as a positive step to end banditry and current security challenges in the state.
The Committee commended the Federal Government’s commitment in the fight against bandits and other forms of crimes not only in Zamfara State the country at large.
PCRC National Chairman, Dr Faruk Maiyama made the commendation while speaking in Gusau on Monday at the 2018 Third Quarter National Executive Council Meeting of the committee.
Maiyama said that the PCRC was in the state for a condolence visit to Zamfara state government and entire people of the state over the recent killing on Innocent persons by the armed bandits.
“The recent approval by President Muhammadu Buhari for the deployment of additional troops to Zamfara state will go along way in bringing to an end killings in the state”, he said.
Maiyama also lauded the Zamfara
State Government’s efforts in supporting security agencies to ensure the curtail of armed banditry activities in the state.
“Part of the roles we play is providing useful security and intelligence information to police and other security agencies”, he said.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Kenneth Ebrimson said the police in collaboration with the security agencies in the state have been making efforts to improve security challenges in the state.
He described the activities of informants and the bad terrains in the as major factors hindering the police in fighting armed banditry in the state.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Abdullahi Muhammad Shinkafi said from 2012 to date the state lost over 2,000 persons in over 50 attacks a across the state.
Shinkafi said the state government is committing high percentage its resources despite the low Internally Generated Revenue of the State.
“We are spending billions of naira in protection of our lives and properties. It become necessary for us as government to ensure protection of lives and properties of our people”, he said.
Earlier, the Zamfara State Chairman of the Committee, Alhaji Bello Dankande said the PCRC have been working with all security agencies in the state over the years towards ensuring peace and stability in the state.
Dankande who is the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, said the dwindling security situation have been affecting the state over the years.
“The PCRC have been working with all security agencies in the state over the years towards ensuring the maintainance of peace and stability in the state.
He thanked the National Executive Council for choosing the state to hold the meeting.
