The umbrella body of the Yoruba Self-Determination Groups, Ilana Omo Oodua (IOO), on Friday, asked the Federal Government and the DSS to pay with immediate effect the N20 billion damages to Yoruba nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo Igboho as ordered by an Oyo state High Court.
Ilana Omo Oodua expressed this in a statement by its Communications Secretary, Mr. Maxwell Adeleye in reaction to the Justice Ladiran Akintola judgement on the Fundamental Rights suit filed by Sunday Adeyemo Igboho.
The body in the statement described the judgement as the triumph of ” Light and Truth over gladiators of Illegalities”
While lauding Justice Akintola for ” re-affirming in the verdict that Self-Determination is one of the Fundamental Human Rights of the Citizens that cannot be subjugated”, the group urged the Nigerian Government through the DSS to pay the fine awarded in favour of Igboho as ordered by the court with immediate effect.
“We thank the Judiciary for Re-affirming that Self-Determination is one of the fundamental human rights of the Citizens that cannot be subjugated. Our position is that this verdict symbolises triumph of light and truth over darkness. Ighoho represents the light and truth, while the Nigerian state stands for Illegalities”, it said.
Ilana Omo Oodua added, ” our position now is that the Nigerian Government should be honourable by respecting the verdict of a court of competent jurisdiction. The N20 billion damages ordered by court to be paid to Ighoho by the DSS should be paid with immediate effect in the interest of peace”.
