Concerned parents of school pupils benefiting from Kaduna State Government’s free school feeding programme, withing the week declared that the programme is laudable and historical and should be maintained.
Speaking with New Nigerian in one of the primary schools located along Constitution Road, Kaduna, one of the parents, Mr. James Ogoche said without the free feeding going on in the public primary and junior secondary schools, only God knows what would have happened to his two sons in primary two and four under the present economic situation.
He explained that since the commencement of the programme, he had not spent a penny on breakfast money to his children thereby saving him the challenges of how to take care of them in the present economic recession going on in the country.
Mr. Ogoche however warned of any plot by individual or group to cause confusion that might affect the programme. “We are telling anybody who has any contrary view over the Kaduna State free feeding programme to leave us parents and government alone. I don’t know why some people will always go against good initiative.
“Going against Governor El-rufai’s free feeding programme is like that person has his children in private schools and do not want the children of the masses to benefit from the present programme.
“Any anti free feeding person should go and join the ongoing anti corruption war in Abuja to recover more looted money. I am saying that nobody or any force can stop this laudable programme except the present state government under the leadership of governor El-Rufai deems it fit to do,” he observed.
Another parent, Malam Shehu Gambo, a truck pusher, who came to supervise the free feeding in Unguwan Sarki primary school, said, “Nobody can stop the free feeding because the project is now peoples project. I came to see things for myself and I am happy of what I have seen. My daughter has just finished her meal during break time,” he explained.
Meanwhile, a Kaduna based legal practitioner, Barrister Maxwell Kyon, has dragged Kaduna State Governor,Malam Nasir El-Eufai, before a Kaduna Magistrate Court 4 challenging the free school feeding programme.
Kyon, who is the plaintiff, argued that there was no need for the governor to feed school children in the state stressing that the initiative was unconstitutional.
The Defence Counsels, Director of Litigation, State ministry of Justice, Sanusi Usman and his Deputy, Daniel Isah, who led the legal team for the defendant, said the plaintiff  has no grounds to challenge the free public schools feeding programme of  governor Nasir El- Rufai.
However, the presiding Judge of State Magistrate Court 4, Chief Magistrate Mairo Muhammed, adjourned the case to 17th March, 2016 for the hearing of preliminary objection.
