Panic As Gunmen Abduct Two Businessmen In Nasarawa

 *COEA ICT Director regains freedom

Palpable fear has gripped Garaku, Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, following the abduction of two businessmen in the area. 

They were abducted by yet-to-be-identified gunmen who invaded their homes at the Dadin Kowa area of Garaku in the early hours of Wednesday.

The unknown gunmen shot sporadically into the air before whisking their victims away to unknown destination. 

No life was said to have been  lost during the operation, which was said to have lasted for about an hour. It  however, created tension in the area. 

Some residents who called for swift action to rescue the businessmen, said they have contributed immensely to the development of the area. 

An aide to the council chairman who confirmed the abduction, said the victims were Nigerians of Igbo background who had lived and traded in the area and environs for over 20 years. 

He called for calm and expressed confidence that the security  has since been notified and would rescue the victims unhurt and reunite them with their families.

Meanwhile, the abducted Director of ICT at the Nasarawa State College of Education Akwanga (COEA), Mr Best Nuhu Barau has regained freedom from his abductors. 

Barau who was kidnapped by unknown gunmen who mounted roadblock along Akwanga-Lafia road was released on Tuesday night after payment of undisclosed sum of money as ransom. 

A family source who confirmed his release, said he’s currently receiving medical treatment in a hospital. 

The ICT Director was reportedly kidnapped alongside scores of other motorists on Monday night by yet-to-be identified gunmen who had been terrorizing motorists along the axis. 

He was said to be returning home from Lafia after a political engagement with some chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
