OYSG to prosecute violators of environmental laws

Oyo State Commissioner for Environment, Mr lshola lsaac Adisa has disclosed that the state government is to start prosecuting violators of environmental laws in the state.
The Commissioner said this in Ibadan while briefing journalists on the activities of his Ministry towards clearing river channels in Ibadan and other parts of the state.
Mr Adisa pointed out that already, the government
has set up 10 environmental tribunals for the prosecution of those found violating environmental laws in the state.
According to the Commissioner, the mobile task force which include some security agencies will be patrolling the streets to ensure strict compliance with the environmental laws, saying the present situation in some parts of the state was unfortunate.
He stressed that Governor Abiola Ajimobi has approved the usage of 300 uniformed sanitation officers to be stationed at strategic location across the state to see and monitor those dumping waste indiscriminately on major roads.
Also, the Commissioner declared that the state government has already accredited about 400 private waste collectors to ensure that all the refuse dumps were cleared without causing health hazard to the people.
Mr Adisa however advised the people of the state against dumping of waste on the roads, saying the state government would henceforth prosecute erring offenders.
