OYSG to overhaul Ibadan chieftaincy institution says Ajimobi as new Olubadan gets staff of office

Governor Abiola Ajimobi yesterday hinted that Oyo State government is set to overhaul the chieftaincy institution in Ibadanland as the new Olubadan got staff of office.
The governor dropped this hint while speaking at the presentation of staff of office and the coronation ceremony of Oba Saliu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso I as the 41st Olubadan of Ibadan at Mapo Hall Arcade.
According to Ajimobi, the planned overhauling of chieftaincy institution in Ibadanland will ensure speedy completion of appointment procedures as well as ensuring the insulation of High Chiefs from partisan politics as the father of all.
According to Ajimobi, there is the need to separate chieftaincy issues from partisan politics considering the fact that royalty is service.
“Oba is expected to be above board and ralying point of all citizens. He is the ruler of Ibadanland and symbol of unity and final say on customary matters. The Olubadan is faced with the task of building peace,” he said.
Speaking further, Ajimobi declared that nobody can be qualified to be Olubadan if he is found to be suffering from physical infirmity or declared to be a lunatic or unsound mind.
The governor also emphasized that the Chiefs Law regulating the succession to the stool of Olubadan recognizes rotation to the stool between the Otun and Balogun lines adding that the ascension to the throne is “strictly rotational”.
“The Choice of the new Olubadan from the Balogun line is customary, traditional, legal and satisfied all legal provisions without legal incumberances. The Council having presented him, I now approved this appointment. He is now the 41st Olubadan of Ibadanland. He is a famous business tycoon and music recording guru discovering many talents sent across the world”
In his remark, the new Olubadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji pleaded for the elevation of Ibadan Airport to International Airport and the creation of Ibadan state from the present Oyo State.
“I beg Bola Tinubu as a key personality in this government to assist us in this regard”.
The coronation ceremony was graced by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Eniitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi,the ‎Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, Sultan of Sokoto,Alhaji  Saad Abubakar III, Emir Of Ilorin, Alhaji, Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, Oba of Lagos,Oba Rilwan Akiolu among other royal fathers across the nation.
Others at the coronation included the National leader of APC, Senator Bola Tinubu, Governors Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti, Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State,Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State, Akinwumi Ambode of Lagos State and Rochas Okorocha of Imo State.
