OYSG to generate IGR from RTEAN, NURTW – Commissioner

Oyo state Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Isaac Omodewu has hinted that the state government is set to start generating Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from transport unions.
The Commissioner stated this while speaking at a stakeholders meeting with members of the transport unions in the state and security agencies.
Mr Omodewu disclosed that the gesture was part of the moves by the state government to guide activities at motor parks and garages as well as to enhance revenue generation for the government and the sustenance of peace in the state.
According to the Commissioner, the policy will be aimed at generating revenue on transport system and equally monitor the daily activities of the unions.
Speaking at the meeting, Oyo State Chairman of Road Transport Employer Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Prince Kehinde Adeyemo asked the state government to raise a Transport Advisory Committee (TAC) to oversee the operational framework of transport unions to ensure peaceful co-existence,
Prince Adeyemo said transport unions can also assist the government on developmental projects through constructions and maintenance of roads within and around the state.
He stressed that there is the need for the state government to have biometric data of all personnel at the motor parks and garages as well as ensure proper management of annual remittance of tax by both unions for the development of the state.
Oyo state Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Taofeek Oyerinde in his remark, assured Oyo state government of the union’s unalloyed support and promised the union’s partnership with the state government in its programmes and activities.
