The Accord party on Tuesday declared that Oyo state government was not sincere with the Monday’s announcement of the slashing of monthly salary and arrears of Governor Abiola Ajimobi, his deputy and all the serving Commissioners in the state by 50 percent
Accord in a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan signed by its Oyo state Publicity Secretary Engr. Akeem Olatunji declared that the purported slash in salary by 50percent was to deceive the public and indirectly result to cutting civil servants’ salary afterwards.
The party stressed that the said announcement
was nothing but “a political statement without action” targeted at the civil servant and not the politicians and a clear attempt to hoodwink the people of Oyo state once again
Accord in the statement noted that the announcement “is a ploy by the state government to further impoverish the civil servants in the state who have been stretched beyond reasonable limit since the inception of this government”.
“The salary cut announced by the government was targeted at the civil Servant and not the politicians who are in the habits of fraudulently colluding with external contractors to shortchange the masses while the so called salary cut is only a political statement without action. What the state government is suspected of doing is to ensure that salaries of civil servants are reduced by 50%,” it added.
Accord party however asked Oyo State government “to publish the renumeration and salaries earned by the state political appointees including the Governor Ajimobi in the last 5 years in comparison to the proposed cut for transparency and accountability”.
Blaming the present financial situation in the state on the alleged gross mismanagement of -State resources and reckless spending by the APC government from its inception, the party advised the state government against the cut in workers pay as it will amount to anti masses.
Oyo state government on Monday announced the slashing of monthly salary and arrears of Governor Abiola Ajimobi, his deputy and all the serving Commissioners, Senior Special Assistants, Special Advisers and other political appointees in the state by 50 percent as from this month (November).
Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Olalekan Alli who stated this in Ibadan while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting said this was as a result of the prevailing economic situation and the low finances in the state in the midst of high cost of governance
“The last Executive Council meeting approved a 50 % cut in the salaries and arrears of political appointees in Oyo State to reflect the current economic situation borne out of the dwindling financial situation in the country, while all government spending will also be reduced by 50%. All these will take effect immediately” he said.
