The Area Controller for Oyo/Osun Command of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Mr. Tope Ogunkua yesterday hinted that the command has generated over N15million as duty paid on 110 vehicles.

According to Mr Ogunkua, the payment of the over

“The command intensified its sensitisation and enlightenment campaigns, which has enhanced the level of voluntary payment of duty on imported vehicles from stakeholders. This month alone, a total of 110 vehicles paid duty through the command, which generated a sum of N15,922,101 to the Federal Government coffers,” he said.
The Oyo/Osun NCS Area Controller declared that the seized 50 kg rice 450 bags of , 290 gallons of vegetable oil and over 5,000 fairly used tyres in the one month were intercepted by his men along Osogbo in Osun state and Igboho/Adafila and Igbeti areas of Oyo state separately .
He maintained that another batch of 20 bags of rice were seized inside the smugglers’ dump site at a forest in Igbeti area of Oyo state and that a Toyota Dyna Truck smuggled into Nigeria without payment of duty was also intercepted on March 21, 2016 in Fiditi area of Oyo State as well as a Volvo Truck, suspected to be carrying over 5,000 fairly used tyres, and other uncustomed goods.
While cautioning on the importation and payment of duty on rice through the land border,Mr Ogunkua said both the importation and payment of duty on rice through the land border has been banned by the Comptroller General of Customs, Col Hameed Ali, saying only importation of rice through seaports have not been banned.
“This is with effect from Friday March 25, 2016. All those who have their duty already paid for the imported rice within the Oyo/Osun Area Command border entry point are advised to evacuate same on or before the said date or risk the rice being seized,” .
