The executive management of Youths Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) Oyo State Chapter has congratulated Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde on his re-election as the Governor of Oyo State, thanking him for his efforts on sports infrastructural development in the state.
A statement signed on behalf of the body by its Chairman, Alabi Abayomi, popularly known as Oluaye described Governor Makinde’s re-election as a fulfillment of the will of God and also a confirmation that people of Oyo State are appreciative of his commitment towards leading the state to greater heights.
The sports body however, expressed appreciation for the good efforts of the governor in the area of sports infrastructural development during his first term, which saw Lekan Salami Sports Complex transformed into a world class stadium, and other stadia and community playing grounds around the state renovated.
Other stadia renovated include, the Olubadan Stadium, pitches in Ikolaba High School, Bishop Phillips Academy, Army Day Secondary School and Agugu High School in Ibadan. The Durbar Stadium, Oyo, Soun Stadium, Ogbomoso, Saki Stadium in Saki, lgboora and Iseyin Stadium also witnessed positive turnaround by the Makinde’s government.
Oyo YSFON however, urged the governor to do more for grassroots sports, especially football, that is the most popular among the teeming youth of the state, by supporting other football clubs in the state with annual grants, saying past governments in the state used to support them with annual subventions.
“It is important that you allow yourself to be guided by the fact that your re-election is an act of God and a result of your outstanding achievements, as well as unmatched love expressed towards sports people during your first term in office as the Governor of Oyo State. We therefore, advise that you intensify efforts to surpass your previous achievements”, Abayomi, Oyo YSFON boss said.
