Oyo/Osun Customs Generates N16.18bn, Makes 111 Seizures – Area Controller

The Customs Area Controller for Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr Elisha David Chikan on Tuesday said the command generated N16.18 billion as revenue between January- November this year.

Mr Chikan  who stated this in Ibadan while addressing newsmen at the Command’s headquarters’ on the activities of the Oyo/Osun NCS Area command also disclosed that during the period, the command made 111 seizure of smuggled items.

According to the Customs Area Controller, the command among others generated N64.18million revenue being Duty Paid Value of items and goods seized by the command between November and December this year alone.

Mr Chinkan gave lists of the seized items as 2,370bags of smuggled imported rice, 1,000 pieces of used Tyres, 105 bales of used clothes, one used Audi 80 car and Toyota Corolla.

“The command during the months of November and December 2017, successfully recorded the following seizures, ” One used DAF 85 Truck carrying 500bags of (50kg) smuggled foreign rice, One used DAF Truck carrying 300 bags of (50kg) smuggled foreign rice, One used MACK trailer with 1000 pieces of used Tyres and 75bales of used clothes, One used DAF Leyland carrying 500bags of (50kg) smuggled rice, 200 bags of ( 50kg) smuggled foreign rice, One used Mazda bus carrying 20bags of 50kg smuggled foreign rice and One used ford bus with 39balles of used clothing ” he said.

The Customs Area Controller added gave other seized items as ” One used DAF truck carrying 500bags of (50kg) snuggled foreign rice, One used DAF truck carrying 300bags of 50kg smuggled foreign rice, One used Audi 80( TOKUNBO car), OBE used Toyota Corolla (TOKUNBO car),One used Ford bus carrying 300 50kg smuggled foreign rice and 30 bales of used clothes “

Emphasizing that the “Nigeria customs service has zero tolerance for smuggling because of its dire consequences on the nation’s economy and security”, saying, ” for the avoidance of doubt, the ban on the importation of rice and used cars (TOKUNBO) through the nation’s land borders is still in force”.
