Oyo State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Taofeek Oyerinde Fele on Tuesday denied any link with the alleged abduction of  former Chairman of a local branch of the Tricycle riders in the state, Musbaudeen Adeyemi.
Already, the state Police Command saidit is investigating the allegation levelled against the union’s Chairman.
The NURTW Chairman in a chat with newsmen declared that there was no basis for anyone or group to link him with the said abduction of the tricycle rider last weekend, saying such was intended to dent his image as the Oyo NURTW Chairman and the South West Zonal Chairman of the union.
“There is no iota of truth in the said report that the boy was abducted and rescued by the police in my residence. I challenge anyone with that fact to name the police officer who led the rescue operation. Musbaudeen was my boy in the union and for his past activities as a vibrant officer, I made him a Chairman of Tricycle branch and he served out his four years term without any hindrance. But his colleagues said they don’t want him to run for another term and instead elected another officer. But he was not satisfied and ended up joining a rival union group under the Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria, TOAN” he said.
The NURTW Chairman while stating that the latest disagreement the tricycle rider had with his colleagues was as a result of the fact that “he still wanted to be using NURTW base to operate”.
“They told him to go elsewhere and look for his own park different from their own. He was said to have stuck to his gun and that caused the friction between them. And as their boss, I told the two groups not to engage in disturbance of public peace and I am happy the police had waded in with a view to further cementing the peace moves I have already started”.
He added that Oyo state has been peaceful since he became the Chairman few years ago and that “In Shaa Allah, we shall continue to ensure peace reign everywhere in the state in line with the peace loving stance of Governor Abiola Ajimobi. Whoever is willing to forment trouble or disturb the prevailing peace here will have himself to blame”.
Commenting on the story, Oyo State Police Public Relation Officer, SP Adekunle Ajisebutu said the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Samuel Adegbuyi has summoned a peace meeting between the two parties warning them against breakdown of law and order in the state.
SP Ajisebutu who stated that the two parties were made to sign an undertaking before leaving the police headquarters after the peace meeting said investigation is still on-going on the issue.
