Oyo bye-election: Labor Party Wins …beats APC, Accord Party

Labor Party (LP) on Saturday won the bye-election conducted into the vacant Oorelope State Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly.
Announcing the election result, the INEC Returning Officer for the poll, Dr Ayer Omole said the Labor Party candidate, Mr Luke Balkan polled 6,122 votes to emerge winner having scored the highest votes in the election.
The INEC Returning Officer declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Mr Jimoh Gbadamosi polled 4,148 votes while the Accord party candidate, Mr Solomon Ola bisi scored 2,123 votes.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after he was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mr Balkan who expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election commended voters in the area for standing by him.
“The surprising thing in this election is that we defeated them with 1,996 during the poll that returned the late John Aremu and today, we have posted a similar margin. We had 1,974. It shows that the people believe in us and we will not let them down,” he said.
Accreditation for the bye election started by 8:00 am with heavy presence of security operatives in all the constituency to prevent any form of violence and to also assure voters of their safety.
The newly elected Lawmaker was a former caretaker Chairman of the Oodles Local Government and defected from the APC in annoyance before contesting the bye election.
