With few days to the bye election into the vacant Orelope constituency seat in the Oyo State House of Assembly, fresh crisis is now rearing its head on the planned poll as the National Action Council (NAC) Monday asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to include its name and logo on the ballot paper to be used for the election.
NAC in a letter made available to journalists in Ibadan signed by its National Chairman, Dr Olapade Agoro dated August 8, addressed to INEC National Headquarters in Abuja through the Oyo INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), and signed received same day at the Oyo REC office, stated that the demand for its inclusion in the ballot paper was in line with the judgment of the Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu on June 2, 2016.
“Consequent upon the Court of Appeal judgment holden 2nd of June, 2016 at Enugu that gave order for my political party National Action Council with six others to be restored back to INEC lists of registered political parties in Nigeria, copy of which judgment you asked me to provide for you and same which I had about two months ago provided for you,” he said.
Dr Agoro added “this is to please hereby demanding on your good selves for National Action Council (NAC), my political party to be put on the list of those political parties to contest the election to fill the Oyo State Orelope constituency”
Speaking with the New Nigerian, the INEC spokesman in Oyo State, Alhaji Ayodele Folami said since the NAC letter was addressed to Abuja office of the commission, the party will be officially replied by the INEC headquarters.
It will be recalled that the lawmaker representing Oorelope State Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly on the platform of the Labour Party (LP) Honourable Gideon Aremu was shot dead by armed robbers in front of his Alakia, Ibadan home on July 1, 2016.
The late Lawmaker, who was the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Public Relations and Security until his death, was reportedly trailed to his house on a motorcycle by the armed robbers before he was robbed and killed.
