Over 4000 People Feared Perished In Turkiye-Syria Double  Earthquake

Over four thousand people have been feared dead in a double-Earthquake of 9.8 magnitude that pounded Turkiye and Syria on Monday January 6, 2023.

The 18-Kilometer deep Earthquake with epicenter in South East Turkiye and Northern part of Syria, sent tremors across five countries in the Middle East, including Cyprus, Lebanon, Israel and Egypt.

Geological experts added that the vibrations of the quakes were also felt in far away scandinavian nations of Denmark and Greenland.

World Health Organization (WHO) fears death toll from the natural disaster could increase eight-fold as red alert for rescue efforts has been activated in the two  affected countries, calling for relief materials for survivors from countries across the World.

President of Turkiye Reccep Erdogan while declaring a weeklong national mourning across the country, solicited supports from global leaders for Ankara.

In Syria, a war-torn nation, rescue efforts for survivors were ongoing as of the time of filling this report.

Damascus reported to have lost over 1,500 people in the double quake that ponded an already devasted community, compounding the miseries of displaced populations in Aleppo and other locations.

World leaders have been sending solidarity and condolence messages to leaders and people of the worst hit Middle East neighbors.

President Joe Biden of the United States his UK counterpart prime minister Rishi Sunak and other heads of government were among early World leaders who sent messages of sympathy to the affected leaders.
