Over 200 Players Participate In 2024 Kaduna  Inter-clubs Badminton Championship

It was celebration galore as badminton players, club officials, badminton club  chairmen and sports administrators  carted  prizes and honours at the just concluded 2024 Kaduna State Inter-clubs Badminton Championship.

The two-day championship came to a close on Saturday at the Gymnasium Hall of the prestigious Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna, with over two hundred badminton players within Kaduna competing in different events.

In the under 15 boys final,  Moses from Arewa Badminton Club beat Walid Kabir from Noble Badminton Club by 2-1, while the Under 49  men’s doubles, saw Hayatu  and Khalid of Exclusive Badminton Club thrash Daura and Suraj from Arewa Badminton club by 2-0.

In the men’s doubles Plus 50 category, Dodo and Faisal from Friendship Club also defeated Shehu and Usman Musa by 2-0.

ABU Badminton Club got the upper hand against Noble Badminton Club as Baba Mairo and Peace walked over Sawyer and Taye 2-0.

The highly explosive encounter that put everything badminton lover on their feet, was the match between Emma Chiroma and Suleiman Usman in the Men’s Single’s Category, where Chiroma of Unity Badminton Club emerged champion  by narrowly beating Usman of Noble 2-1.

The Girls Round Robbin saw all Arewa Badminton Club players exhibiting their skills as Joy picked the gold, Love (silver) and Victoria at Ummi with the bronze.

In a remark, the Honourable Commissioner of Sports Development Kaduna State,  Professor Benjamin Kumai Gugong, expressed delight with the honour bestowed on him and promised to reciprocate the gesture 

He said,  “since assuming office, badminton association is the first to do this by honouring me and I will find time to pay back.”

Gugong added that what he has witnessed has impressed him and very soon, the ministry will work towards doing same.

While the sponsor of the two-day championship, Chairman Kaduna State Badminton Association who doubles as the Vice President Nigeria Badminton Federation ,Dr. Mohammed Maina, maintained that he remains grateful to Almighty Allah for seeing a successful tournament.

“I’m absolutely happy to witness the end of this competition as it was injury free and everyone is happy with the conduct of players.”

On whether he got support from corporate bodies or any company,

Maina said, “I used the little resources I have to make the players happy and don’t forget,   we have moved further to select some good players that will be exposed to the world soon.

The competition which was organised to honour the Honourable Commissioner of Sports Development Kaduna State, Professor Benjamin Kumai Gugong,  saw dignitaries at the final which included,  Hon. Mohammed Dan Asabe Chokali, member Kaduna State House of Assembly, Commissioner of Sports Development, Professor Benjamin Kumai Gugong and SA on Sports to Governor Uba Sani, Saidu Idris Dibis.

Others spotted were some directors in the sports ministry, badminton club chairmen. ABCIN chairman and  a host of others

High point of the colourful final marked with the presentation of awards to some important dignitaries that included,  the Commissioner of Sports, Badminton Club Chairmen and  Chairman SWAN Kaduna State Chapter, Shehu Abdullahi,

While the players that took part went home with medals, gifts and cash prizes.
