The Odua Peoples Congress (OPC) under the leadership of Iba Gani Adam’s, the Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land on Saturday asked Sheik Abubakar Gumi, to henceforth stay away from the entire Yorubaland .
Oyo State Coordinator of the group, Comrade Rotimi Oguntunde Olumo handed down the warning while briefing journalists at the end of the group’s state Executive Council monthly meeting in Ibadan
Comrade Olumo declared that the unexpected visit of Sheik Abubakar Gumi “to Igboho a Yoruba town, in Oyo North,Oyo State, Nigeria is an affront to the entire Yoruba nation” .
Stressing that Sheik Gumi should ” stay clear of any parts of the South Western Region of Yoruba land.”, the OPC Coordinator declared that Sheik Gumi,’s visit ” poses a big security threat to the entire Yoruba nation because they did not see any reason or interest it serves, rather than to make mockery of the people in the South West.”
Comrade Olumo disclosed that the purported statement of Sheik Gumi and his entourage at Igboho was a clear manifestation that they were there to ridicule and provoke the Yorubas in their domain, which the OPC frowned at, saying, the Yoruba nation did not need the assistance of someone like Gumi to protect “our people” as adequate measures have been put in place to secure the Region.
The OPC Coordinator pointed out that the visit of Sheik Gumi to Igboho called for concern and adequate vigilance from the people of the entire South West as he could not be trusted and that his visit to the Region was suspicious,
Comrade Olumo emphasized that OPC under the leadership of Iba Gani Adam’s ” is prepared for any eventuality in the South West, as the region is now being closely monitored against any infiltration of bandits, unscrupulous elements and any form of criminal activities.
He then expressed the total support of the Oyo State executive of the OPC to the leadership of Iba Gani Adams and commended his efforts for the ways he has been handling the affairs of his office as the Are Onakakanfo of Yoruba land and the General overseer of the OPC, as well as the security of the people of the entire South West.
Commending the South West Governors for their relentless efforts in ensuring peace in the region, Comrade Olumo said OPC members are law abiding and ready to work and operate within the ambit of the laws and collaborate with all security agencies to ensure the protections of lives and property in the South west.
