The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and the Osun State Governor, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola are among the dignitaries expected to grace the 30th Annual Convention of Royal Union of Owu People (RUOP) slated for Orile-Owu in Ayedade Local Government area of Osun State.
This was contained in a statement made available to journalists by the RUOP National President, Alhaji Fatai Akinade Akinbade, to herald the commencement of the convention with about 35 monarchs of Owu extraction as well as its sons and daughters from all walks of life, would be in attendance.
According to Alhaji Akinbade in the statement, the two-day event commencing on Friday, (December 9) and ends on Saturday,coincides with the 200 years when the ancient Owu kingdom was sacked in 1821 during the Yoruba intra civil war.
Alhaji Akinbade stressed that though the incident that led to war which necessitated the dispersal of the Owu people affected them somehow, he however, asserted that they have moved on and have continued to contribute positively to every area they find themselves.
“The event that led to the war no doubt have its negative effects,it equally has it positive side. Owu people are not only known as determined set of people, but are equally industrious and always up and doing in various fields of endeavours,” he said.
The RUOP President gave highlight of the two-day event as will laying of foundation of RUOP’s National Secretariat at Orile-Owu, Jumat and Church services, visit to historical points, among others.
