Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State in this  year’s elections, Ambassador Sadique Baba Abubakar has expressed worries that Bauchi has the highest number of out-of-school children with attendance in schools of only 29. 9 per cent.

According to him, the figure of only 29.9 per cent is against the national average attendance in schools of 68 per cent, thereby describing education sector as in very bad shape in Bauchi, noting that the state is far lagging behind.

Abubakar at a briefing with journalists in Bauchi  on Tuesday said, “The education sector is in very bad shape and we have the highest number of out-of-school children in Nigeria today. Most of our children that should have been in classrooms, do not have access to education”.

He was passing a thank-you message to supporters, members, APC chieftains and the ruling party federal government delegation led by President Muhammadu Buhari who were in Bauchi Monday for the APC presidential campaign rally organized by the campaign council under the tutelage of its flagbearer, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He observed that only private schools are working in Bauchi which are very expensive with only few people that could afford its cost of education, saying however “we are not against private schools, what we are against is the situation where majority of our citizens could not have access to the basic requirements of education”.

The APC governorship candidate said, “We have the highest out of school children in Nigeria today, most of our children that should have been in classrooms do not have access to education. It is an education driven society, it is either you are part of the process or you are forgotten”.

Abubakar, also a former Air Marshal of the Nigerian Air Force stated, “Once it is only the children of minority that are going to schools, you are going to run into a big problem because those children of the majority will end up taking everywhere and fighting those that are going to schools”.
