One Dead, Several Injured As Religious Violence Leads To Shut Down Of Nigerian University

Modibbo Adama University of Technology Yola, (MAUTECH)  has been shut down till further notice.
The institution was shut down Monday morning following a riot by students during the weekend.
The University Dean (students Affairs) Dr. Lawal Haruna who made this known disclosed  that due to the unrest by the students, the management after its emergency meeting over the unfortunate incident decided to shut down the school till further notice.
“This is to inform all students that the University senate at its emergency meeting held on the 5th Febuary, 2018 directed the closure of the university with immediate effect, this is as a result of students unrest that occurred last night (Sunday) , He stated.
He therefore advised students to vacate University campus latest by 2:00pm.
Haruna, maintained that the closure was aimed at curtailing the already bad situation and also to carry out investigations.
He pointed out that two lecture theatres used by Christians students as fellowship place were burnt even  as two mosques  on the campus were equally razed down.
Unfortunately some students in the night ( Sunday) took the fight outside the campus and three sustained injuries one died at the hospital this morning at the federal medical Centre Yola.”.He explained 
New Nigerian learnt that, the crisis started when a Christian student was said to have posted a blasphemous statement against Prophet Muhammad through his whatsApp handle which sparked the violent protest that led to the killing of one student and injuring many.
