A former Member of Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon. Olukannye Eleko has dissociated himself from Ondo Renaissance Group (ORG), saying he could not defect to another party in an Office.
Speaking with Journalists in Akure, Hon, Eleko said members of the group had no reason whatsoever to dump PDP knowing full well that the state Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko was ready to yield to their demands.
It would be recalled that some members of PDP under the aegis of Ondo Renaissance Group (ORG), recently defected enmass to the opposition party, the All Progressive Congress (APC), describing their action as an attempt to liberate the people from the misrule of PDP in the state.
In a swift reaction, Hon. Eleko said even though he was initially part of the group, he had to opt out when one of their two demands were met by the Governor.
The first demand, he said was various grievances of individuals against the Governor, which he graciously addressed by calling them one on one as a result of which there was no basis for defection to APC.
Hus words, ”I am matured enough to decide for myself, I repeat, I have the right to join any group but I never tried to decamp at any time”.
He recalled when he wanted to join Labour Party (LP) and how he refused to accept the use of Arcade Ground which he said was too small to accommodate his followers.
He therefore wondered on how those ”acclaimed big weight politicians” could accept to use an Office to decamp with their followers rather than using a large avenue as he singularly did when he was moving to LP.
He however commended the current scenario where over 70 people are justling to pick the ticket of APC, saying the more aspirants the merrier, adding that unlike what operates in other states where they go to neighbouring states to scout for candidates during election.
He also commended Mr. Governor for fulfilling his electoral promise to conduct Local Government election, saying the opposition aught not to had boycotted the election but rather they could had used the opportunity to test their popularity towards the coming governorship election in the state.
