The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Mrs.Hilda Ibifuro-Harrison has disclosed that no fewer than 24 thousand policemen would be deployed from the Force Headquarters for the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
The Commissioner made the disclosure Wednesday in Akure, the state capital during the signing of peace pact by all political parties participating in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.
Ibifuro-Harrison who affirmed the importance of security during the election, further disclosed that “the more security is put in place, the more massive turn-out for voting by the people.”
The police boss lamented that despite the series of peace talks with party chieftains and stakeholders, the reported violence and assault in Owo still occurred.
She appealed to all political parties in the state to allow peace to reign before, during and after the forthcoming election in the state.
The police boss noted that the command would continue to step up efforts in the 47 police divisions and three area commands in the state so that the November poll can be violence-free.
According to her, “During campaign, there must not be throwing of stones or any object that can cause bodily harm to anybody. Let’s learn to be law abiding,” she said, urging all politicians to warn their supporters to desist from violence.
Among the pacts signed included the need “to respect the rule of law and abide by the provisions of Section 129 of the Electoral Act 2010 on electoral offences.
“To run issue-based campaigns during the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo State, and thereby, refrain from campaigns of calumny, religious sentiment, ethnic chauvinism or tribal jingoism both by ourselves and all agents in our names.”
“To refrain from making or causing to make in our names, or that of our parties any public statement, pronouncement, declaration or speeches that have the capacity to incite any form of violence before, during and after the election.”
Responding,  the governorship candidate of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), Mrs Olamide Falana and State Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Chief Korede Duyile, urged the police to ensure that financial inducement at the poll units termed “See-and-buy” is prevented, demanding that more security should be provided in the rural areas.
